CALTC Rapid Recap: Consultations on medical assistance in dying (MAiD)

The Government of Canada is currently holding consultations with patients, practitioners, disability advocates, and stakeholders to help inform their legislative response to a judgment by the Superior Court of Quebec which struck down the provision in the law on medical assistance in dying (MAiD) relating to the requirement that a patient’s death be reasonably foreseeable.

An online questionnaire was launched last week aimed at gauging respondents’ views on potential amendments to Canada’s law governing medical assistance in dying.

As long-term care leaders, administrators, and front-line staff, your voices are important in this process. The questionnaire, along with more information, can be found here and will remain open until January 27th, 2020.

About CALTC

The Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC) is a national organization comprised of provincial associations and long-term care providers that deliver publicly funded health care services for seniors across Canada.

CALTC members also represent care providers responsible for the employment of Canadians that deliver quality care to Canada’s most vulnerable residents each day. Our purpose is to share information, insights and best practices on current and emerging long-term care issues, collaborate to address challenges and opportunities that impact long-term care, and to advocate on issues that have broad impact on participating associations, seniors, and their families.
